Vincent Gallo, the idiosyncratic indie film star plays “the Sheriff” and “the Pusher” in this Italian update of the classic tale of a boy raised in isolation who may or may not be royalty.

Davide Manuli’s visceral post-Western pushes film form to surreal heights. Shot in luminous black and white with a pumping soundtrack by Vitalic, The Legend of Kaspar Hauser joins the ranks of such post-apocalyptic works as El Topo, Stalker, Alphaville and Dead Man.

Arrived on a deserted beach in the Mediterranean sea, in a time and a place unspecified, Kaspar Hauser is forced to confront the evil of a Grand Duchess who feels threatened by the power she exercises over the community. To get rid of the blond intruder, she seeks the assistance of Pusher, a criminal with whom he has a relationship, who knows how to get rid of the “enemy”. Too bad he did not reckon with the Sheriff, a DJ who considers Kaspar as the new Messiah. With an original, heart-thumping soundtrack by the renowned producer Vitalic, The Legend of Kaspar Hauser joins the ranks of such post-apocalyptic works as El Topo, Stalker, Alphaville and Dead Man. So don’t miss out on this free-form, anything-goes, existential comedy.

“Kaspar Hauser is Trippy, Ludicrous, and Essential” – Bullett
