THE LEGEND OF KASPAR HAUSER

In this Arizona Premiere, The Legend of Kaspar Hauser begins with a dance competition between Vincent Gallo and Vincent Gallo. Yes, he plays two roles here. The idiosyncratic indie film star plays “the Sheriff” and “the Pusher” in this Italian update of the classic tale of a boy raised in isolation who may or may not be royalty. With an original, heart-thumping soundtrack by the renowned producer Vitalic, Legend moves in step, so don’t miss out on this free-form, anything-goes, existential comedy.

Kaspar Hauser is Trippy, Ludicrous, and Essential – Bullett

L

From the writer and cinematographer of the oscar nominated film, Dogtooth comes a film that has has dogtooth marks everywhere with the same off-beat sense of humor, but with professional drivers. L has the deadpan performances, flat compositions and a predilection for teasing out the casual cruelty. It stands out this year as a film overtly comic, both in script and style, so don’t miss out on the Arizona Premiere.

“A deeply unsettling work that charms… it’s the kind of film that follows you out of the theater – Flix

BONES BRIGADE: AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY

When six teenage boys came together as a skateboarding team in the 1980s, they reinvented not only their chosen sport but themselves too – as they evolved from insecure outsiders to the most influential athletes in the field. This documentary chronicles their epic rise, using awesome archival footage and moving first-person accounts from Brigade members Steve Caballero, Tommy Guerrero, Tony Hawk, Mike McGill, Lance Mountain, and Rodney Mullen, among others. Through passion, drive, creativity, and a surprising sense of teamwork, they revitalized the sport and influenced generations to come. This is the first screening of this film in Arizona, so don’t miss what critics are calling one of the best documentaries of the year.

“Peralta’s doc is a generous, tasty slice of skateboarding history.” – Hollywood Reporter

I WANT MY NAME BACK

Highlighting the rise, fall and rise again of original members of The Sugarhill Gang, Wonder Mike (Michael Wright) and Master Gee (Guy O’Brien). The Sugarhill Gang recorded the first ever platinum rap album and rap song and are credited with introducing hip hop to the world more than thirty years ago. We follow The Sugarhill Gang as they try to create new music and battle with their label and an indifferent legal system which stripped them of their identities and rightful legacies.

“There’s a sense of rage to I Want My Name Back… take(s) on the air of protest, of a middle finger to those who have done The Sugarhill Gang harm.” – Film Threat

THE EXHIBITIONISTS

The Arizona Underground Film Festival is proud to be the World Premiere of a film that fuses Greek tragedy with lurid exploitation cinema and satire in The Exhibitionists. The film follows 36 deadly hours in the life of filmmaker Walter Todd, as he assembles his closest friends for a New Year’s Eve party. The Exhibitionists is a pulpy exploration of the tipping point between documentary and pornography, which features a impressive ensemble cast that shows us the danger in confusing the subjective eye of a camera for objective truth.
